'Bride-Napping' Is Still A Trend Around The World | YourTango

'Bride-Napping' Is Still A Trend Around The World
In some countries, the bride-stealing custom is one of the oldest marriage traditions.

Mock abductions of brides are part of marriage ceremonies across the former Soviet Union.

BUCHAREST, Romania ? A white limousine screeches to a halt and a bride, resplendent in frothy gown and veil, is hauled outside by her abductors.

It's one of Romania's more colorful customs: bride-napping. And the tradition of snatching the bride from under the nose of groom and guests with the wedding party in full swing is getting bigger, brasher and an increasingly common sight in the Romanian capital, the Balkans' undisputed party town.

Every Saturday night, brides from Bucharest and beyond are dragged away in a mock abduction by friends and driven to a top tourist spot where they are "held hostage" ? all the while pouting, dancing and striking provocative poses for the cameras.

SAfrican buffalo sells for record $3.25 million

JOHANNESBURG (AP) ? South Africa's Stud Game Breeders' Association says a young buffalo bull sold at auction for a record 26 million rand ($3.25 million).

Owner Jacques Malan of Lumarie Game Farm says the 4 years and 10-month-old bull "Horizon" has horns measuring 51 and three-eighth inches (130.5 centimeters) long.

He told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he applied a knowledge of genetics garnered from his father since childhood pursuing an aim "to breed back the old giants of the bush of Africa which have been hunted out over past centuries."

Horizon will be used for breeding.

The association said it is the most expensive wild animal ever sold in South Africa.

Horizon was sold at a weekend auction, fetching 8 million rand ($1 million) more than a buffalo sold last year.

The Cheerio Family: Pregnancy Update: 32 Weeks

How far along:

Total weight gain/loss:
I've gained another five pounds, so 15 pounds total. It doesn't seem like that much, but when I look in the mirror, I definitely see it!?

Maternity clothes:

Yes. I've narrowed my maternity clothes section down to the bare minimum. Now that I'm reading this, it seems pretty silly to have gotten rid of so much, but I am just done with anything that isn't super comfy and cool. I wear a tank top and a maxi skirt most days when I have to be out and about, and lounge around the house in ultra comfy clothes.

Movement:

Apparently, Evan thinks my internal organs and ribcage are her personal playground. This girl has her feet, hands and bum in all the most uncomfortable places. I especially love the sharp jabs to my cervix!

Gender:

GIRL!

Emotions:?

I'm hanging in there, but am SO done with being pregnant.

Food cravings:?

I haven't been craving much of anything. I am eating smaller and smaller portions, also- there is just no room for a big meal now (and I try to avoid heartburn as much as I possibly can). I bought a regular sized bag of hot Cheetos before our trip, thinking they might make it until we hit the freeway, but after I opened them, I didn't even want them! I had 95% of the bag when we came home.

Sleep:

Oh man, when we wer eon our trip and the first few nights we were back, I actually slept the whole night though- it was glorious!!! I'm back to tossing and turning all night now, which means rough nights for both Joel and I.?

Symptoms:

All the usual suspects: back pain, anemia, contractions, heartburn, nausea, exhaustion, misery.

So, I was pretty sure I would have GD again with Evan, but my one hour glucose test came back perfect. I want to still be careful, but I almost always have at least one treat during the day- I cannot curb my sweet tooth (teeth?) for anything!

Stretch marks?:?

Surprisingly, no. I keep thinking one day I am going to a loud ripping noise and just know it's either going to be my skin or my pants.

Labor Signs:

I went to the hospital on Thursday morning because I was having intense contractions close together (within 5-7 minutes of each other) for several hours. Yes, I know the doctor recommends going if there are more than 6 contractions in one hour, but if I followed that rule, I'd be at the hospital every single day. There is still no change to my cervix, but the contractions keep coming... I got a couple shots of terbutaline and all calmed down enough to go home.?

Belly Button in or out:

It is still in right now, but there is so much pressure behind my belly button that I am scared it will pop out any day now. :/

What I miss:?

Everything. I cannot wait until this baby is here and I can start to feel normal again.

What I am looking forward to:?

Mobility. Energy. Eating without raging heartburn. Snuggling my little baby.?

Best moment this week:

Joel gave me the best massage for like, an hour the other night. I think I was slipping in and out of a relaxation coma. It was amazing.?

(AP) ? Anderson Cooper revealed on Monday that he is gay, ending years of reluctance to talk about his personal life in public.

The CNN journalist wrote in an online letter that he had kept his sexual orientation private for personal and professional reasons, but came to think that remaining silent had given some people a mistaken impression that he was ashamed.

"The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn't be any more happy, comfortable with myself and proud," he wrote in the letter, published by Andrew Sullivan of the Daily Beast.

Cooper, the son of Gloria Vanderbilt, had long been the subject of rumors about his sexual orientation. He said that in a perfect world, it wouldn't be anyone's business, but that there is value in "standing up and being counted."

"I still consider myself a reserved person and I hope this doesn't mean an end to a small amount of personal space," he wrote. "But I do think visibility is important, more important than preserving my reporter's shield of privacy."

CNN said it would not comment, and that Cooper was on assignment and there were no plans for Cooper to discuss it on the air.

Few national television news reporters have publicly acknowledged being gay, with MSNBC's Rachel Maddow and CNN's Don Lemon perhaps the best known.

Cooper's show, "Anderson Cooper 360," received an award this year from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

"Even prior to coming out publicly, Anderson's terrific work has raised awareness of inequalities facing LGBT people, said GLAAD President Herndon Graddick. "He's a role model to millions and now will inspire countless others."
