Garth Cane, technical editor for RV Lifestyle magazine and RV Lifestyle Dealer News, today (Feb. 6) was named chairman of the Canadian Standards Association Z240 RV Technical Committees.
According to a news release, the CSA Z240 RV Technical Committees are composed of members from manufacturers, suppliers, dealers, and general interest groups from both Canada and the United States. These members volunteer their time and expertise to update the specifications of the CSA Z240 code to adapt to evolving technical changes in the recreational vehicle industry.
The technical committees are responsible to keep the standards updated for propane, electrical, plumbing, general safety requirements of frames, lighting, gross vehicle weight ratings and road safety requirements for the construction of recreational vehicles that are built for sale in Canada.
Cane brings decades of experience and expertise to this new position. He has served as chairman of the CSA Z240 Electrical subcommittee from 2004 to the present, and also is on the Z241 technical committee for RV park models. He has worked in the RV industry as a sales and service consultant since 1971, and been the technical editor of RV Lifestyle Magazine and RV Lifestyle DEALER NEWS since 1991. He is also a very popular seminar speaker at RV shows and rallies throughout North America.
Cane is an electrical engineer and he was responsible for the first RV apprenticeship training program in the Province of Ontario. A member of the Automotive Journalist Association of Canada (AJAC), Garth was the host of the syndicated TV program RV Vacation Adventures, and has been a member of the board of the Recreational Vehicle Safety & Education Foundation (RVSEF) since 2006.
