ST.BERNARD ? For the second straight year, the ?Super Bowl of Archery? kicked off on the running trails at St. Bernard Abby Thursday. The McKenzie ASA (Archery Shooters Association) Classic Tournament is the last stop on the 2013 tour and it seems to have found a hole here in Cullman.
Hundreds upon hundreds of shooters flocked to Cullman to try and take home their share of the over $500,000 in prize money that will be awarded over the weekend.
?Last year we had shooters that were good enough for the Olympics,? said Cullman Parks and Recreation Marketing Manager Waid Harbison.?But the came here because they could make more money.?
With all of the hard work the Cullman Parks and Recreation Department and volunteers have put in, it is no wonder why ASA President Mike Tyrell speaks so highly of Cullman.
?I can?t say enough about the (Cullman) parks and rec department,? Tyrell said. ?I have been doing this since 1995 and I can honestly say I have never worked with a more professional organization.?
The McKenzie ASA Classic Tournament is open to spectators and fans of archery. Come on out to watch the best shooters around and make sure you pick up a copy of CullmanSense Monday for a complete recap, including winners, of the weekends action.
